Fun, creative, actually doable party ideas for girls who are too big for toddler games—but still want a little magic.

1. Escape Room Challenge
THE IDEA
Turn the party into a mission! The girls work together to solve puzzles, crack codes, uncover hidden clues, and complete a final challenge before time runs out. It's a great mix of teamwork, problem-solving, and excitement for this age.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
An age-appropriate escape room
Pencils
Scratch paper
A timer (optional for this age group)
Printed clues, puzzles, or props required for your game
HOW TO PLAY
Choose a fun theme and mission—recover the missing birthday cake, find a hidden treasure, save a magical kingdom, solve a mysterious disappearance, etc. Give the girls their first clue and let them work together through a series of puzzles until they solve the final mystery.
You can create your own escape room with the help of AI for the storyline, riddles, codes, and puzzles, then use Canva to design and print everything.
Or save yourself a whole lot of work and buy a ready-to-play printable escape room.
MAKE IT EXTRA FUN
Hide clues around the party space, add a dramatic countdown timer, and have the final puzzle lead to a small treasure box filled with treats or party favors.
MOM OF THE CASTLE PICK
Want one that's already made for you?
Escape from Everglow is my printable fairy escape-room adventure. Just download, print, set it up, and let the girls enter the magical world of Everglow!
Pair it with #18 Flower Crown Creation! Have the girls make their fairy flower crowns first, then wear them as they enter Everglow for their adventure.
2. Treasure Hunt
THE IDEA
Send the girls racing from clue to clue until they discover a final birthday treasure!
Treasure hunts are incredibly easy to customize for almost any party theme—princesses, fairies, detectives, animals, pirates, or just a good old-fashioned birthday hunt.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
About 6–10 clues
Hiding places around your home or party space
A final treasure
Optional candy, prizes, favors, or goodie bags
HOW TO PLAY
Each clue leads the girls to the location of the next clue.
Use rhyming riddles, picture clues, scrambled words, or little puzzles.
Let AI Write the Clues for You
AI Prompt: "Create a fun indoor treasure hunt for a birthday party with girls ages 8–10. I want 10 clues total. Each clue should rhyme and lead to the next hiding place. Keep the clues easy enough for this age group to solve, but not babyish. Use these hiding locations in this exact order: [INSERT YOUR 10 LOCATIONS HERE]. The final clue should lead to the birthday prize or party favor bags. Please number each clue 1–10 and write only the clue text, with no extra explanation."Give AI your actual hiding places and have it create the entire hunt!
WANT ME TO MAKE IT EASY FOR YOU?
Don't feel like creating all those clues yourself? I've already done it for you!
Grab my FREE Printable Birthday Treasure Hunt with 10 ready-to-use rhyming clue cards. Just write in your own hiding places, cut out the cards, hide them around the house, and put a prize at the end!
MAKE IT EXTRA FUN
Before the girls can receive the next clue, add little challenges along the way:
Do 10 jumping jacks
Solve a riddle
Sing Happy Birthday in a silly voice
Build a tower with 10 cups
Find three pink things
And instead of buying a separate prize, have the treasure at the end be their party favor bags!
3. Cupcake Decorating Challenge
THE IDEA
Instead of simply serving cupcakes, turn decorating them into one of the party activities!
Give the girls plain cupcakes, frosting, sprinkles, and candy—and then surprise them with different decorating challenges.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
2–3 plain cupcakes per girl
Frosting in several colors
Spoons or disposable piping bags
Sprinkles
Candy or edible decorations
Plates
Table protection
HOW TO PLAY
Give the girls about 5–7 minutes for each decorating round.
Try:
Rainbow Round — Make the most colorful cupcake possible.
Birthday Girl Round — Create a cupcake inspired by the birthday girl.
Crazy Cupcake — The crazier, the better.
Fancy Round — Create the fanciest cupcake you can.
Mystery Ingredient — Everyone must use one surprise ingredient.
When you're finished, admire the creations—and then eat them!
MAKE IT EXTRA FUN
Give out silly awards:
Most Colorful
Most Creative
Funniest Cupcake
Best Use of Sprinkles
Birthday Girl's Favorite
Have small bakery boxes available so girls can take extra cupcakes home.
💰 KEEP IT SIMPLE & SAVE
You absolutely do not need fancy frosting tips.
I found a package of 100 disposable 8-inch piping bags. Fill them with frosting and snip a TINY hole in the bottom corner.
Seriously—start tiny! You can always make the hole bigger. You cannot make it smaller.
And of course, you can't decorate cupcakes without sprinkles! This 2lb container of sprinkles gives the girls plenty to work with.
If you want to make the cupcake table feel a little more special, these fancier sprinkles are such a fun option.
And if there are cupcakes left over, send them home in a cute little cupcake box so all that hard decorating work stays safe and beautiful!
4. Friendship Bracelet Bar
THE IDEA
Set up a colorful bracelet station where girls can sit, talk, create, and make personalized friendship bracelets.
It's a nice quieter activity between some of the crazier party games—and everyone gets something to take home.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
Stretchy jewelry cord
Colorful beads
Letter beads
Small bowls, trays, or muffin tins
Scissors
HOW TO DO IT
Set all the beads out and let the girls design bracelets using their names, initials, favorite words, inside jokes, matching colors, or completely random combinations.
When they're finished, have an adult securely tie and trim each bracelet.
MAKE IT EXTRA FUN
Turn the table into a real Bracelet Bar with a little menu:
Rainbow
BFF
Sparkle
Initials
Surprise Me
Put a few extra-special beads or charms in a separate bowl and let each girl choose one.
Try a Mystery Bead Grab: close your eyes, choose 3–5 random beads, and you HAVE to use them.
And don't forget a Wrist Stack Photo once everyone is finished!
SWEET BIRTHDAY IDEA
Have each guest make one extra bracelet for the birthday girl.
By the end of the party, she'll have an entire bracelet collection made by her friends.
🎁 ACTIVITY + PARTY FAVOR
The bracelets are the favors!
You can even leave the Bracelet Bar set up throughout the party so girls can return to it during downtime.
Go easy on yourself and check out this bracelet-making kit on Amazon!
5. Paint Party
THE IDEA
Turn the table into a mini art studio!
Each girl gets a small canvas and creates her own masterpiece. Everyone can paint the same picture or make something completely different.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
Small canvases or canvas panels
Washable or acrylic craft paint
Paintbrushes
Water cups
Paper plates or paint palettes
Paper towels
Table protection
Optional old oversized T-shirts for smocks
HOW TO DO IT
Choose a simple picture that fits the birthday girl's interests or party theme—flowers, cupcakes, sunsets, hearts, animals, rainbows, etc.
Follow a simple kids' painting tutorial together, or let everyone create whatever she wants.
MAKE IT EXTRA FUN
Mini Art Gallery: Display everyone's paintings together when they're finished.
Name Your Masterpiece: Every artist has to give her painting an official title.
Mystery Paint Challenge: Add random requirements like:
Use your non-dominant hand
Add something sparkly
Hide a tiny heart somewhere
Use one unexpected color
Finish with an Artist Photo of everyone holding her painting.
🎁 ACTIVITY + PARTY FAVOR
Write each girl's name on the back and let the paintings dry during the rest of the party.
At the end, everyone takes home her artwork.
💰 MAKE IT EASY OR SAVE
For the easiest option, look for kids' paint-by-number kits that already include the canvas, paints, and brushes. They’ll cost a little more per guest, but almost everything is ready to go.
Want to keep the cost down? Build your own little paint kits instead! Give each girl her own canvas (here's a set of 12 8x10 canvases - the perfect size and quantity for a birthday party!), set out a big set of colorful craft paints for everyone to share, and add a few paintbrushes in different sizes.
For the paint, these little paint palettes are perfect for giving each girl her own colors without putting full bottles of paint all over the table—or using a million paper plates.
And don't worry about easels! They're adorable in pictures, but completely unnecessary. The girls can paint perfectly well with their canvases lying flat on the table.
6. Build-Your-Own Sundae Bar
THE IDEA
Dessert becomes the activity!
Set out ice cream and toppings and let each girl build her ultimate birthday sundae.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
A few ice cream flavors
Bowls or cups
Spoons
Hot fudge or chocolate sauce
Caramel
Whipped cream
Sprinkles
A handful of fun toppings
Try crushed cookies, marshmallows, gummy candy, chocolate chips, chopped candy bars, cherries, or fruit.
You definitely don't need all of them!
HOW TO DO IT
Put the toppings in little bowls or even the sections of a muffin tin and let everyone build her own creation.
For easier serving, pre-scoop the ice cream into bowls or a muffin tin and keep it in the freezer until sundae time.
MAKE IT EXTRA FUN
Create a sundae menu:
Unicorn Explosion
Cookie Monster
Chocolate Overload
Pretty in Pink
Candy Mountain
Or roll a die to determine a mystery topping.
Have everyone name her creation and give out ridiculous Sundae Awards.
💰 KEEP IT SIMPLE & SAVE
Two ice cream flavors, a couple sauces, whipped cream, and 5–6 toppings are plenty.
And remember—this can replace the birthday cake entirely.
Put a candle in the birthday girl's sundae and sing Happy Birthday!
7. Wizard Training Academy

THE IDEA
Welcome your guests to Wizard Training Academy!
Give each new wizard a wand and send her through a series of silly magical classes and challenges.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
One wand per girl
Supplies for whichever classes you choose
Optional team names, points, or graduation certificates
HOW TO PLAY
Choose several magical classes:
Spell Casting — Invent silly spells and wand movements.
Potions — Mix colorful bubbling potions or magical drinks.
Levitation — Keep a balloon floating using only your wand.
Care of Magical Creatures — Hide toy creatures around the room and send the girls to rescue them.
Divination — Give each other ridiculous fortunes.
Flying Lessons — Create a broomstick relay or obstacle course.
MAKE IT EXTRA FUN
Randomly divide everyone into funny wizard teams and award Academy Points throughout the party.
At the end, hold a dramatic Wizard Academy graduation ceremony.
🎁 ACTIVITY + PARTY FAVOR
The wand becomes part of the activity and goes home with the girl afterward.
I found an affordable 12-pack of wizard wands that makes this really easy and won't break the bank.
💰 DIY & SAVE
Want to make your own?
Collect smooth, sturdy sticks without sharp points or loose bark, wrap yarn around one end using Elmer's Glue to create a handle, and spray paint them brown.
The birthday girl could even help make the wands before the party.
8. Nail Painting Party
THE IDEA
Let the girls paint their fingers, toes, and each other's nails—then turn the nail polish itself into a game!
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
Several nail polish colors
Nail polish remover
Cotton pads/swabs
Towels or table protection
Optional glitter polish, nail stickers, or gems
HOW TO PLAY
Pair the girls up and let them paint each other's nails.
Then play Spin & Paint.
Arrange the nail polish bottles in a circle and put one bottle in the middle as the spinner.
Spin it!
Whichever color the bottle points toward is the color your friend gets on her next nail.
Keep spinning until all 10 nails are painted, then switch.
You can do toes too!
MAKE IT EXTRA FUN
Switch It Up: Have a different friend paint each hand or foot.
Birthday Girl Wild Card: Let the birthday girl choose someone's next color.
Mani-Pedi Photo: Take a picture of all those colorful fingers and toes together.
PAIR IT WITH #4: FRIENDSHIP BRACELET BAR
This is such an easy combination.
Put on music, add snacks, and you've got two activities that naturally work together.
9. Minute-to-Win-It Tournament
THE IDEA
Turn simple household items into a hilarious 60-second party tournament.
Choose 5–8 challenges and see what the girls can accomplish before the timer runs out!
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
Whatever your chosen challenges require—which is mostly stuff you probably already own.
HOW TO PLAY
Try:
Cookie Face: Move a cookie from your forehead to your mouth without using your hands.
Cup Stack: Build and take down a cup pyramid.
Keep It Up: Keep two balloons off the floor.
Cotton Ball Scoop: Blindfolded, move cotton balls from one bowl to another using a spoon.
Straw Race: Use suction through a straw to move small lightweight objects.
Penny Tower: Stack as many pennies as possible.
Dice Stack: Stack dice without knocking them over.
Cup Flip: Flip cups so they land upright.
Candy Sort: Sort candy using only one hand.
Mummy Wrap: Wrap a teammate in toilet paper.
MAKE IT EXTRA FUN
Turn Mom or Dad into an overly enthusiastic game-show host.
Try Beat the Birthday Girl, throw in a Mystery Challenge, or award ridiculous prizes like:
Fastest Fingers
Best Recovery
Most Dramatic Failure 😂
You can keep score—or don't. Sometimes the chaos is enough.
💰 KEEP IT SIMPLE & SAVE
Raid your kitchen, junk drawer, and existing party supplies before buying anything.
Cups, cookies, balloons, dice, cotton balls, spoons, pennies...
You probably already own most of the game.
10. Saran Wrap Ball Game
THE IDEA
Wrap candy and little prizes inside layer after layer of plastic wrap to create one enormous prize ball.
One girl unwraps while another frantically rolls dice trying to stop her!
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
Plastic wrap
Two dice
Candy
Small prizes or party favors
Try stickers, scrunchies, temporary tattoos, rings, bracelets, lip balm, mini fidgets, erasers, or hair clips.
HOW TO MAKE THE BALL
Put a special prize in the center.
Wrap it several times, add another candy or prize, wrap again, and continue building the ball.
Don't use one continuous piece of plastic wrap.
Tear it periodically and restart from a different direction so the ball is harder to unwrap.
HOW TO PLAY
Sit in a circle.
One girl starts unwrapping while the girl beside her rolls two dice as quickly as possible.
As soon as she rolls doubles:
STOP!
The ball moves to the dice roller and the dice move to the next girl.
Anything that falls out while you're unwrapping is yours!
Continue until someone reaches the center prize.
MAKE IT EXTRA FUN
Grand Prize Center: Put your best prize in the very middle.
Silly Surprises: Hide ridiculous things between layers—a plastic spoon, googly eyes, a rubber chicken, a single sock, or even a note that says:
“Congratulations! You won...absolutely nothing!”
For older kids, make them unwrap while wearing oven mitts.
🎁 ACTIVITY + PARTY FAVOR
The candy and little prizes the girls collect become their party favors.
One purchase. Two purposes. Less prep.
11. Indoor Campout & Flashlight Games
THE IDEA
Turn off the lights, pull out the blankets and flashlights, and let the girls build their own giant indoor campsite.
You don't need matching tents and a Pinterest-perfect setup. Building the fort can be half the fun.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
Blankets
Pillows
Flashlights
Chairs or furniture to support the fort
Clips or clothespins
Optional sleeping bags and camping snacks
HOW TO PLAY
Start by letting the girls build one giant blanket fort together.
Then turn off the lights and play flashlight games:
Flashlight Hide & Seek
Flashlight Limbo
Shadow Charades
Flashlight Dance Party
Flashlight Storytelling
MAKE IT EXTRA FUN
Set up a Fort Snack Bar.
Make a rule that flashlight stories must be ridiculous.
Or try a Lights-Out Challenge where everyone has to complete a task using only flashlights.
🛍️ SHOP, SAVE & SEND IT HOME
Here is the 6-pack of mini flashlights I used for another party that worked out perfectly!
If there's enough for each girl to have her own flashlight during the party, then she can take it home afterward.
No individual teepees. No matching sleeping bags. No personalized pillows required.
Use the furniture, blankets, and pillows you already have and let the girls create the fun themselves.
12. Mystery Detective Game
THE IDEA
There's been a birthday crime! The cake disappeared. The presents are missing. Someone stole the party favors.
Turn the girls into detectives and let them solve the mystery.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
Envelopes
Paper
Pencils
Tape
Optional magnifying glasses
Simple “evidence”
HOW TO PLAY
Create 3–5 pretend suspects.
They could be:
The dog
Dad
A sibling
Grandma
A stuffed animal
Fictional characters
Create clues that gradually eliminate suspects.
Maybe the culprit left:
A muddy footprint
A note written in purple ink
Cookie crumbs
A mysterious witness statement
Add detective activities like:
Fingerprint Investigation
Secret Messages & Ciphers
Hidden Evidence
A Torn-Up Note
Evidence Searches
Throw in a few irrelevant objects too, just to make the detectives work for it.
MAKE IT EXTRA FUN
Give everyone ridiculous detective names.
Create a little crime scene using tape or string.
Recruit adults or older siblings to play suspects and let the detectives interview them.
💰 KEEP IT SIMPLE & SAVE
The story creates most of the fun.
Envelopes, torn paper, stuffed animals, flour footprints, and things you already have around the house can become evidence.
And AI can create almost the entire mystery for you. Tell it the girls' ages, number of clues you want, rooms you're using, and objects you have available.
13. Glow Dance Party

THE IDEA
Turn off the lights, crank up the music, break out the glow sticks—and let the girls become the decorations!
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
Glow sticks
Music
Speaker
A dark room
Optional light-up balloons, disco light, black lights, or neon decorations
HOW TO PLAY
Give everyone a pile of glow sticks and let them create:
Bracelets
Necklaces
Crowns
Belts
Glasses
Then turn off the lights and DANCE.
MAKE IT EXTRA FUN
Try:
Glow Freeze Dance
Dance Move Challenge
Glow Limbo
Glow Ring Toss
Glow Fashion Show
If you use light-up balloons, add Glow Balloon Volleyball or challenge everyone to keep the balloons off the floor.
SHOP THE GLOW PARTY
I found 300 8-inch glow sticks for about $22. For 8–10 girls, that's roughly 30+ glow sticks each—plenty for some seriously ridiculous glowing accessories.
Honestly, $22 for an hour of glowing, dancing, giggling chaos? Worth it.
Want to take it one step further?
These light-up balloons would add a whole new level of fun to any dance party!
💰 KEEP IT SIMPLE & SAVE
You do NOT need black lights, fog machines, neon backdrops, and an elaborate glowing party setup.
Buy a big pack of glow sticks, turn off the lights, play the birthday girl's favorite music, and let the girls become the decorations!
14. Amazing Race Birthday Challenge
THE IDEA
Divide the girls into teams and send them racing through a series of challenges around your house or backyard.
Unlike a treasure hunt, they know where they're going—the challenge is completing the task before moving on.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
Mostly household items!
Set up about 6–8 challenge stations.
HOW TO PLAY
Try:
Don't Drop the Egg: Carry a plastic egg or ping-pong ball on a spoon.
Cup Tower: Build a tower.
Balloon Waddle: Carry a balloon between your knees.
Puzzle Dash: Complete a small puzzle.
Lucky Roll: Keep rolling until you get doubles.
Laundry Basket Toss: Toss rolled-up socks into a basket.
Cookie Face: Move a cookie from forehead to mouth without hands.
Scrambled Message: Unscramble a phrase.
Build It Up: Build a specific structure.
Finish the Song: Complete the next lyric or title.
Team Challenge: Chicken dance, spin, hop, make an animal noise, or sing Happy Birthday like an opera singer.
MAKE IT EXTRA FUN
Put each challenge in a Race Envelope.
Create Pit Stops.
Give the birthday girl one special advantage.
And somebody needs to be an extremely dramatic Race Host.
THE FINISH LINE
Use ribbon, streamers, sidewalk chalk, or even two chairs to create a finish line.
The prize can simply be bragging rights—or lead everyone straight into dessert.
PAIR IT WITH #3 OR #6
After running around, the girls will probably be ready to sit down, cool off, and eat.
Pair the Amazing Race with:
#3 Cupcake Decorating Challenge
or
#6 Build-Your-Own Sundae Bar
You could even make dessert the final destination:
YOU DID IT! YOU FINISHED THE AMAZING RACE!
Your final challenge: Build the ultimate birthday sundae.
💰 KEEP IT SIMPLE & SAVE
Build the challenges around what you already have rather than shopping for specific race supplies.
15. Charm Bar
THE IDEA
Set out a collection of charms and let each girl create a personalized bracelet or necklace.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
Bracelet or necklace chains
Assorted charms
Jump rings/connectors if needed
Small pliers if using traditional charms
Bowls, trays, or muffin tins
HOW TO DO IT
Sort the charms into little “shops”:
Sweet & Girly
Animal Lover
Foodie
Dreamer
Hobbies & Favorites
Make It Personal
Let each girl “shop” for a set number—maybe 5–6 charms—so one enthusiastic shopper doesn't accidentally clean out the entire store!
MAKE IT EXTRA FUN
Mystery Charm: Everyone has to use one randomly selected charm.
Friendship Charm: Friends choose matching charms.
Birthday Girl Charm: Each girl helps choose a special charm for the birthday girl.
Finish with a wrist-stack photo.
🎁 ACTIVITY + PARTY FAVOR
The finished jewelry becomes the favor.
Instead of spending money on a craft and a goodie bag, put that budget toward something the girls actually made themselves.
💰 SAVE MONEY OR MAKE IT EASY
If you're comfortable using jewelry pliers, regular charms + jump rings will usually give you more variety for less money.
If you'd rather have the girls attach the charms themselves, look for clip-on/lobster-clasp charms. They're easier, but often more expensive for fewer charms.
So basically, shop according to your jewelry-making skills—and your budget!
16. Follow Your String

THE IDEA
Turn your house into a giant web of colorful string! Hear me out...
Each girl gets her own long piece of yarn or string that winds its way around the room—around furniture, through doorways, over and under things, and across everyone else's strings—until it eventually leads her to a surprise at the end.
The strings will cross and intersect all over the place, so the girls have to pay attention and follow only their own string to find out where it leads!
We do this every Easter for our kids to find their Easter baskets, and they absolutely love it. It's such a simple idea, but following that string all over the house somehow makes finding the surprise about ten times more exciting.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
One long piece of yarn or string per girl
A different color for each girl
A surprise for the end of each string
Optional tape for securing string where needed
HOW TO PLAY
Start by attaching one end of every string in the same starting spot. Tie or tape them to something sturdy so they stay put. This is where all the girls will begin.
Now take each string on its own crazy journey around the party space! Loop it around a lamp, across a bookshelf, under a table, around a chair leg, through a doorway, over a door handle, down a hallway—whatever works in your space.
Do the same thing with every girl's string, letting the different paths cross over and under each other along the way. The strings aren't tied or braided together. Each one stays on its own separate path—they just intersect enough to turn your room (or house!) into one giant colorful web.
Have each string finish in a different spot and place a prize, party favor, or surprise at the end.
When it's time to play, have each girl choose a string color. Then...
3...2...1...GO!
Each girl follows her string through the room or house, carefully keeping track of her color whenever the paths cross, until she reaches the surprise waiting at the end.
The girls don't untie or gather the string as they go. The string stays exactly where you put it—they're simply following its path from beginning to end.
Once everyone has found her prize, grab a pair of scissors, walk around cutting down all that yarn, and toss it in the trash.
That's it! A little yarn, a whole lot of chaos, and some seriously cheap fun.
MAKE IT EXTRA FUN
The surprise can be almost anything you already need to hand out:
Party favors
Goodie bags
Crowns
Necklaces
Craft supplies
Pieces needed for the next activity
PAIR IT WITH #7
Hosting Wizard Training Academy?
Put a wand or wizard item at the end of every string and make the girls find their wizard item before training begins.
💰 KEEP IT SIMPLE & SAVE
You're already handing the girls something. Turn handing it out into a game!
17. Birthday Game Show
THE IDEA
Turn the party into a personalized game show with trivia, music, guessing games, charades, and silly challenges based on everything the birthday girl loves.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
Questions and challenges
Paper or mini whiteboards
Scoreboard
Optional bells or buzzers
Phone/speaker for music rounds
HOW TO PLAY
Divide everyone into teams and choose several rounds:
Trivia
Name That Song
Charades
Guess Who? — Give clues one at a time.
Would You Rather? — Teams predict which answer the birthday girl will choose.
How Well Do You Know the Birthday Girl?
CUSTOMIZE IT
If your birthday girl loves Disney, for example, you could have:
Disney Trivia
Name That Disney Song
Disney Charades
Guess the Disney Character
Who Said It?
Finish the Movie Title
Choose categories based on what your birthday girl and her friends actually know and love.
LET AI BUILD YOUR GAME SHOW
Tell AI:
Ages
Number of guests
Birthday girl's interests
How long you want the game to last
Then ask it to create the questions, answers, categories, point values, challenges, and tie-breakers.
MAKE IT EXTRA FUN
Add:
Double Points Round
Birthday Girl Bonus
Final Wager Round
And most importantly:
The host needs to COMMIT.
Game-show voice. Dramatic pauses. Ridiculous enthusiasm.
💰 KEEP IT SIMPLE & SAVE
You don't need buzzers or special game-show software.
Paper or a whiteboard works perfectly—and AI can create your questions for free.
18. Flower Crown Creation

THE IDEA
Let each girl design her own flower crown to wear during the party and take home afterward.
It's creative, pretty, and a great quieter activity before a bigger party game.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
Artificial flowers and greenery
Floral wire or plain headbands
Floral tape or ribbon
Scissors/wire cutters
Optional hot glue
Adults should handle hot glue and wire cutting.
HOW TO DO IT
Prep the flowers ahead of time by removing them from long stems.
Arrange everything into a Flower Bar and let the girls choose their flowers and greenery.
Have them arrange their design before attaching anything, then secure the flowers to the crown.
There is no right way to make one!
MAKE IT EXTRA FUN
Add:
Ribbon
Butterflies
Leaves
Pearls
Sparkly accents
Give the birthday girl one special flower or embellishment that makes her crown a little different.
Then take a group photo of everyone wearing her creation.
PAIR IT WITH #1: ESCAPE ROOM CHALLENGE
Planning a fairy party?
Have the girls make their crowns first, then wear them when they enter Escape from Everglow for their fairy escape-room adventure.
🎁 ACTIVITY + PARTY FAVOR
Make it. Wear it. Take it home.
One activity, one adorable photo opportunity, and one party favor.
MAKE IT EASY
I used this flower crown kit I found on Amazon for my daughter's party, and they turned out SO cute!
You definitely don't have to buy a kit, though. If you already have artificial flowers, ribbon, or greenery around the house, use what you've got!
19. Slime Lab
THE IDEA
Turn the table into a Slime Lab where every girl gets to create her own ridiculous slime combinations.
And here's the secret: You don't have to make the slime from scratch.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
Slime
Glitter, foam beads, charms, or other add-ins
Bowls or trays
Small containers with lids
Disposable tablecloth
HOW TO PLAY
Open the Slime Lab and let everyone combine colors, textures, and add-ins.
Create:
Sparkle Slime
Mermaid Slime
Galaxy Slime
Birthday Cake Slime
Princess Slime
Rainbow Slime
MAKE IT EXTRA FUN
Name Your Slime: Require every creation to have an official name.
Ideas:
Unicorn Snot
Mermaid Goo
Galaxy Glop
Princess Slime-a-Lot
Mystery Mix-In: Everyone has to randomly choose one surprise add-in.
Slime Challenge: Call out a theme and see what everyone creates.
MAKE IT REALLY EASY
So I'm a boring mom who isn't really into slime and definitely won't be taking the time to make it! So here's the alternative for other moms like me: the perfect slime kit that includes 33 containers of premade colored slime plus a bunch of add-ins.
For a typical party of 8–10 girls, that's enough for each girl to choose 2–3 different slimes to customize, with a few extras.
Open the box... The Slime Lab is officially open for business!
🎁 ACTIVITY + PARTY FAVOR
Let each girl customize 2–3 slime containers, name them, label them, and take them home.
There! You've covered the main activity, supplies, and party favors.
That's pretty hard to beat.
20. Candy Chaos
THE IDEA
Grab a big bag of candy and turn it into the entertainment!
Choose one of these games—or play both—and when you're finished, the girls' candy winnings become their party favors.
GAME #1: CANDY GRAB DICE GAME
Sit everyone in a circle with a big pile of candy in the middle.
Take turns rolling two dice:
2 — Pick any candy from the middle
3 — Steal one candy from the person on your left
4 — Steal one candy from the person on your right
5 — Everyone passes ONE candy to the left
6 — Pick a candy from the middle
7 — CANDY HEIST! Steal any candy from any player
8 — Nothing! Pass the dice
9 — Choose two players to swap one candy
10 — Pick a candy from the middle
11 — JACKPOT! Take TWO candies from the middle—or steal one from another player
12 — CANDY CHAOS! Everyone passes one candy to the right
Keep everyone's candy visible in front of them so players can see exactly what everyone else has—and decide what they want to steal.
NO ONE GETS ELIMINATED!
If you lose your last piece of candy, keep playing.
Your next roll could put you right back in the game.
ADD THE CANDY VAULT
Each girl gets one chance during the entire game to choose a favorite candy and yell:
“IN THE VAULT!”
Set that candy aside. It's officially safe and can't be stolen for the rest of the game.
Choose wisely!
THE FINAL CANDY SCRAMBLE
When the last candy disappears from the middle, the game isn't over.
Set a timer for 2 minutes.
Now play FAST:
Roll → Do the action → Pass the dice!
When the timer suddenly goes off: HANDS UP!
Whatever candy you have is yours to keep.
GAME #2: NAME THAT CANDY CHALLENGE
Blindfold one girl and give her a small bite of candy.
Without seeing it, she has to answer:
WHAT CANDY AM I EATING?
Try several candies and keep track of how many each girl identifies correctly.
Make it harder by choosing candies with similar flavors or different varieties of the same candy.
The girl with the most correct guesses becomes the Candy Queen!
Always check for food allergies and dietary restrictions before choosing candy.
MAKE IT EXTRA FUN
Play Name That Candy first and use all the unopened candy afterward for the Dice Game.
Or make Candy Chaos the final activity and hand everyone a bag for their winnings.
🎁 ACTIVITY + PARTY FAVOR
No need to buy candy for the game and candy for goodie bags.
It's the same candy!
Game + treats + party favor = one purchase doing three jobs.
💰 KEEP IT SIMPLE & SAVE
Skip the full-size candy bars.
Buy variety bags of fun-size candy and individually wrapped treats.
Plan on approximately 3–5 pieces per girl.
For 10 girls, that's about 30–50 candies—and having lots of individual pieces actually makes the game more fun because there's more candy being grabbed, stolen, swapped, passed, and vaulted!
21. Dance Freeze with Challenges
THE IDEA
It's Freeze Dance—but every time the music stops, the girls have to freeze in a ridiculous pose!
Nobody gets eliminated. If you move or can't stop laughing, you do a silly challenge and jump right back in.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
Music. That's it!
HOW TO PLAY
Start the music and let everyone dance.
While they're dancing, yell:
“FREEZE LIKE YOU JUST SAW A GIANT SPIDER!”
Give them a few seconds...
Stop the music...
And enjoy the results.
SILLY FREEZE
Freeze like...
You stepped on a banana peel
You smelled something disgusting
You're sneaking cookies
You're about to sneeze
The floor is lava
Someone told the funniest joke ever
You just saw a giant spider
SUPERSTAR FREEZE
Pose like...
You're walking the red carpet
You're on a magazine cover
You won a million dollars
You're a rock star
You're walking a runway
You won a huge award
The paparazzi spotted you
ANIMAL FREEZE
Become a:
Flamingo
Monkey
Cat
Frog
Penguin
Unicorn
T-Rex
Chicken
EMOTION FREEZE
Show us your face when...
Your crush walks into the room
Someone gives you a puppy
You get broccoli instead of birthday cake
You find $100
Your sibling eats your dessert
You remember homework is due tomorrow
Someone gives you concert tickets
You realize there's a snake behind you
CAUGHT MOVING?
Do one quick challenge:
Chicken dance
Evil laugh
Penguin walk
Spin around three times
Sing Happy Birthday like an opera singer
Do the robot
Pretend you're a cat
Dramatic hair flip
Invent a dance move
Then jump right back in!
PAIR IT WITH #13: GLOW DANCE PARTY
This is where it gets REALLY fun.
Turn off the lights and let everyone dance with their glow sticks.
Call out:
“FREEZE LIKE YOU JUST SAW A GIANT SPIDER!”
Stop the music.
Everyone freezes.
Then...
FLIP ON THE LIGHTS!
Now everyone gets to see the ridiculous poses their friends ended up in.
Lights back off. Music back on. Repeat.
You're using the same music, same glow sticks, same dance floor, and same setup for two different activities.
22. Themed Charades
THE IDEA
Take classic charades and customize it around whatever your birthday girl loves!
Choose one theme for the whole game or mix several together.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
Charades clues
Bowl
Timer
Optional die
PICK A THEME
Try:
Pop Stars
Princesses & Fairy Tales
Movie Night
Silly Girls
Or create your own theme based completely on the birthday girl's interests.
HOW TO PLAY
Put the clues into a bowl.
One girl chooses a clue and acts it out without speaking while everyone else guesses.
Play individually or divide everyone into teams.
MAKE IT EXTRA FUN: CHAOS CHARADES
Before acting out the clue, roll a die.
The number determines HOW you have to perform it:
1 — Regular Charades
2 — Slow Motion
3 — Robot Mode 🤖
4 — SUPER Dramatic
5 — Underwater
6 — Birthday Girl's Choice
Then start the timer and let the guessing begin.
MORE WAYS TO PLAY
Speed Round: How many clues can your team guess in 60 seconds?
Partner Charades: Two girls act out the same clue together without planning it first.
Birthday Girl Round: Make a few clues specifically about her favorite things.

💰 KEEP IT SIMPLE & SAVE
Paper + a bowl.
That's basically the entire game.
23. Tie-Dye Shirt Making
THE IDEA
Let each girl design her own colorful tie-dye shirt!
No two shirts will look exactly alike, and once they're finished, everyone gets a personalized shirt she can actually wear.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
One white T-shirt per girl
Tie-dye kit
Rubber bands
Disposable gloves
Plastic tablecloths or trash bags
Plastic bags or containers for holding shirts while the dye sets
HOW TO DO IT
Before anything else: WRITE EACH GIRL'S NAME ON HER SHIRT TAG! You will definitely want to know whose is whose later.
Then choose a technique:
Spiral: Pinch the center and twist the shirt into a spiral.
Scrunch: Scrunch the shirt into a pile.
Bullseye: Pinch one section, pull it upward, and add rubber bands down the length.
Or just let everyone experiment.
Add the dye and follow the instructions that come with your particular kit for setting, rinsing, washing, and drying.
MAKE IT EXTRA FUN
Limit the Colors: Create a shirt using only two or three colors.
Friendship Shirts: Friends choose the same colors but different folding techniques.
Birthday Girl Colors: Coordinate the dye with the party colors.
Before & After Photo: Photograph everyone holding her plain white shirt, then later send a picture of all the finished creations.
🎁 ACTIVITY + PARTY FAVOR
The finished shirt makes an awesome party favor.
But this one comes with a catch: Mom has homework.
⚠️ KNOW BEFORE YOU CHOOSE THIS ONE
Tie-dye takes commitment. The shirts need hours to set, then they need to be rinsed, washed, dried, sorted, and returned to each guest.
So:
Party day: Make and label the shirts.
After the party: Let them set, rinse them, wash them, dry them, and return them.
This isn't the activity to choose if you want to completely cross everything off your list when the party ends.
But if you're willing to see it through, every girl ends up with a really fun personalized keepsake.
MAKE IT EASY
I found a 6-color tie-dye kit on Amazon for the brave mom willing to take on this task!
Six colors is plenty! The fun is seeing how differently the girls use the same colors—not having every shade of the rainbow available.
Ask for each guest's T-shirt size when she RSVPs so you can have everything ready before the party.
24. Balloon Games
THE IDEA
A bag of balloons can turn into an entire lineup of birthday party games!
Pick two or three favorites and you've got an easy way to keep a group of girls moving, laughing, and entertained.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
Balloons!
A few household items depending on the games you choose
BALLOON VOLLEYBALL
Create a “net” using:
A couch
A table
String or ribbon
A row of chairs
Divide into teams and hit the balloon back and forth without letting it touch the floor.
Make it harder: Add another balloon!
KEEPY UPPY
Everyone gets a balloon.
The rule:
DON'T LET IT TOUCH THE GROUND!
Then call out challenges:
“ELBOWS ONLY!”
“ONE HAND!”
“HEADS ONLY!”
“NO HANDS!”
“SWITCH BALLOONS!”
PARTNER KEEPY UPPY
Pair up and give each pair one balloon.
Work together to keep it off the ground.
Make each round harder:
Hands only
Elbows only
Heads only
No hands
Step backward after every hit
Final round?
Give each pair two balloons.
Good luck.
POP THE BALLOON CHALLENGE
Before blowing up the balloons, put a little challenge inside each one.
Try:
Do the chicken dance
Sing Happy Birthday like an opera singer
Walk like a penguin
Do your best evil laugh
Pretend you're a runway model
Act like a monkey
Invent a new dance move
Talk like a robot
Or hide special instructions:
“Pick a piece of candy!”
“Choose someone to do the next challenge with you!”
“Everyone has to do this challenge!”
“Birthday Girl Challenge!”
Nobody knows what's inside until... POP!
WATER BALLOON VOLLEYBALL
Having a summer party?
Divide everyone into pairs and give each pair a towel.
Two girls hold the ends and use the towel to launch a water balloon over a volleyball net, rope, or string.
The other team tries to catch it in their towel and launch it back.
Eventually... SPLAT.
BALLOON BLITZ
Throw several balloons into the play area.
The group has one goal:
KEEP EVERY BALLOON OFF THE FLOOR.
Start with three.
Then four.
Then five.
Keep adding balloons until everything completely falls apart.
MAKE IT EXTRA FUN
Don't choose just one!
Start with Keepy Uppy, move into Balloon Volleyball, add more balloons for Balloon Blitz, and finish with the Pop the Balloon Challenge.
One bag of balloons can become several different party games.
💰 KEEP IT SIMPLE & SAVE
You don't need special equipment.
Use your couch, dining table, chairs, string, towels, and whatever else you already own.
25. Air-Dry Clay Creations

THE IDEA
Give each girl a chunk of air-dry clay and let her sculpt, shape, and create whatever she can imagine!
Girls can make jewelry dishes, figurines, ornaments, magnets, initials, animals, or creations that match the birthday theme.
And unlike salt dough: No oven required!
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
Air-dry clay
Rolling pins or smooth cups
Cookie cutters
Toothpicks, plastic utensils, or simple clay tools
Parchment paper or paper plates
Optional paint and brushes for decorating after the clay dries
WHAT CAN THEY MAKE?
Fairy Party: Mushrooms, flowers, butterflies, fairy doors, or tiny houses
Princess Party: Crowns, castles, hearts, or jewelry dishes
Wizard Party: Stars, moons, potion bottles, or magical symbols
Animal Lover: Favorite animals, paw prints, or little pets
Anything Goes: Initials, rainbows, food, smiley faces, mini sculptures—whatever they dream up!
MAKE IT EXTRA FUN
Mystery Creation: Make something without telling anyone what it is. Everyone has to guess.
Miniature Challenge: Who can make the tiniest recognizable creation?
Theme Challenge: Call out “MAGICAL!” “ANIMAL!” or “FOOD!” and see what everyone creates.
Birthday Girl Collection: Have each guest make one tiny creation for the birthday girl. She'll end up with a collection of little keepsakes made by her friends.
🎁 ACTIVITY + PARTY FAVOR
Each girl's creation becomes her party favor.
Write each girl's name on her paper plate or parchment paper before you start so you know which creation belongs to whom.
Remember that air-dry clay needs time to dry, so the creations may not be ready to take home immediately.
MAKE IT EASY
I found this 5 lb bucket of Crayola Air-Dry Clay for about $14.
Open the bucket, divide the clay among the girls, and you're ready.
No mixing ingredients.
No making dough ahead of time.
No baking.
For around $14, you've got the main supply for an entire party activity.
WANT TO PAINT THEM?
Air-dry clay needs time to completely dry, so painting will probably happen after the party.
You can:
Leave the creations unpainted
Return them once they're dry so girls can paint them at home
Have a little Part 2 painting get-together later
Send them home with mini paint sets to paint at home.
💰 KEEP IT SIMPLE & SAVE
You don't need special sculpting tools.
Pull out cookie cutters, toothpicks, plastic utensils, rolling pins, and other safe kitchen or craft supplies you already own.
A bucket of clay plus things from around the house gives you a creative activity and a personalized keepsake without spending much at all.
I put this list together because I know how quickly birthday parties can go from “This is going to be so fun!” to “How did this become so much work...and why is everything so expensive?!” My goal with Mom of the Castle is to help take some of that birthday burden off moms everywhere. Birthdays don’t have to break the bank, and they don’t have to stress us out to be magical and memorable. If I find a great deal, discover an easier way to do something, create a helpful printable, or stumble across an idea that saves another mom time, money, or sanity—you better believe I’m passing it along! We’re all in this together, and if I can help lighten the load so you can spend a little less time stressing about the party and a little more time enjoying your birthday girl, I will.
